Russian UAV attacks were common cause of civilian deaths in Ukraine in January - UN

Short-range drone attacks were the most common causes of civilian deaths in Ukraine in January 2025.
Reuters writes about this with reference to the data of the UN monitoring mission, Censor.NET reports.
They noted that the use of UAVs in Ukraine has increased over the three years of Russian aggression.
At least 139 civilians in Ukraine were killed and 738 injured in January 2025. 27% of deaths and 30% of injuries were caused by short-range drones.
According to the UN, nearly 12,500 civilians have been killed in Ukraine during the war, including 650 children. The UN has repeatedly noted that its estimates are underestimates, as they take into account deaths that the organization's teams have been able to verify.
"Our data show a clear and disturbing trend of short-range drones being used in ways that put civilians at grave risk," said Daniel Belle, head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.
The UN added that both Ukraine and Russia produced more than a million drones in 2024.
Russia continues to deny deliberate attacks on Ukrainian civilians.
