Hegseth at Ramstein will not announce new arms supplies to Ukraine - WP

Hegseth at Ramstein will not announce aid to Ukraine

The new Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth will participate in a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein) on Wednesday, February 12. He is unlikely to announce any new arms supplies to Ukraine.

This is reported by The Washington Post, Censor.NET informs.

It is noted that Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth will be the first representative of the new Trump administration to visit NATO headquarters in Brussels on February 12.

According to the newspaper, Hegseth is not expected to make any statements regarding new military aid to Ukraine. According to an unnamed American official, the Pentagon chief will not meet face-to-face with his Ukrainian counterparts, but rather will be a "listener" at Ramstein and at the NATO defense ministers' meeting on Thursday, February 13.

The secretary will reaffirm President Trump's commitment to a diplomatic end to the war in Ukraine as soon as possible. He will also emphasize the need for stronger European leadership in providing security assistance to Ukraine," WP quoted the Pentagon statement as saying.

A senior NATO diplomat told WP that a constructive dialogue with the new US administration, as well as a commitment by the US to do everything possible to keep Ukraine fighting, "will be the most important outcomes of the meeting."

As a reminder, on the morning of February 6, the United Kingdom announced that it was convening a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's defense in the Ramstein format. It will take place on February 12 in Brussels on the eve of a meeting of NATO defense ministers.
