DPRK soldiers believe that South Korean military is fighting against them in Kursk region - prisoner

North Koreans believe that the military from South Korea is fighting against them

One of the captured DPRK soldiers said that propaganda told them that they were fighting against soldiers from South Korea in the Kursk region.

This was stated in an interview with The Chosun by one of the two captured DPRK soldiers, Censor.NET reports.

Ri, 26, said he was a private, a sniper scout. He had been serving in the military since 2015 and was about to be demobilized. When he was leaving the DPRK, he did not know that he would be sent to the war against Ukraine.

The man says he was told that he would be sent to Russia to study as a foreign student.

"I was told that I was going there to study as a student. I had no idea that I would take part in the fighting," he said.

On October 10, he left the DPRK and arrived at a military camp near Vladivostok. In mid-December, their unit was transferred to the Kursk region, where they were informed of their purpose in Russia.

"I joined the battle on January 5. The first wave of troops suffered heavy losses due to drone strikes and artillery fire. We counted on the support of Russian artillery, but they did not cover us properly. This resulted in unnecessary casualties," Rhee said.

The soldier said that each battalion of 500 soldiers had one or two officers from the DPRK Ministry of State Security who were responsible for their ideological indoctrination.

"Before the battle, one of them told me that all the drone operators in the Ukrainian army were South Korean soldiers," Ri added, noting that all the DPRK soldiers believed this.

"Almost everyone I came with was killed. All the men who came with me were killed. In my unit, all my comrades were killed. There was no one left," he added.
