EU should keep frozen assets of Central Bank of Russia until end of war - Sikorski

Radosław Sikorski on the Czech initiative

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that the assets of the Central Bank of Russia in the EU should remain frozen until Russia ends the war and compensates Ukraine for the damage it has caused.

He said this during a meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, Censor.NET reports citing the EP.

"We will continue to try to ensure that the assets of the Russian Central Bank are frozen... and can be used in the interests of Ukraine. But we must speak with one voice. The assets of the Russian bank must be frozen until this aggression ends. And the damage that has been done must be compensated," Sikorski said.

According to him, Europe's responsibility lies not only in supporting Ukraine during the war, but also in its post-war reconstruction. He also emphasized that the EU can no longer interact with Russia and Belarus in the way it used to.

"Russia should not be able to actually resume the war. Putin and Russia understand only the language of force... That is why we need to ensure a military, armed, consolidated Europe to confront Russia," the Polish minister emphasized.
