"I have just had another long conversation with several colleagues from the European Union, as well as Canada, Iceland and Norway. The position of France and its partners is clear and united... We stand by Ukraine and will bear full responsibility for guaranteeing peace and security in Europe. This is a fundamental interest of France, and I am its guarantor," Macron wrote on the social network X.

He said that efforts to achieve peace would continue in accordance with the following principles:

  • Ukraine's involvement and respect for its rights,
  • peace must be lasting and accompanied by reliable and clear guarantees,
  • the security interests of Europeans must be taken into account.

"We are convinced of the need to increase our spending on defense and security and to strengthen capabilities for Europe and each of our countries. Decisions will be made in the coming days and weeks," Macron said.

As a reminder, on February 19, France held a second meeting to discuss Ukraine and European security, which was attended by Norway, Canada, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Czech Republic, Greece, Finland, Romania, Sweden, and Belgium.
