EU ministers give green light to new military aid initiative for Ukraine - Kallas

Kallas: EU backs new defense initiative to help Ukraine

The High Representative of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, said that the foreign ministers of the EU member states supported its new defense initiative to help Ukraine.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

"We discussed and the ministers broadly supported a new initiative on military assistance to Ukraine. Of course, the details and figures (referring to funding - ed.) will be decided and discussed at the extraordinary European Summit on March 6. We have to put Ukraine in a position of strength so that Ukraine can say no to a bad deal," Kallas said in Brussels after the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

She noted that today the EU Council adopted a 16-1 package of sanctions against Russia, and work is already underway on the 17th package.

"Three years ago today, war broke out in Ukraine, and I think we can all remember where we were at that moment when we heard about it. There is no question who is the aggressor and who is the victim. Russia started bombing Ukraine on February 24, 2022 and continues to do so. No one in Europe wants the war to continue, and no one in Europe wants the war less than Ukrainians.

They want peace on their territory, and this is quite understandable, so we have to be really strong against the aggressor and achieve peace by force. The EU stands behind Ukraine. We promised it and we are doing it," the EU diplomat added.
