European Council to hold summit to support Ukraine and strengthen European security, - Tusk

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that a special summit of the European Council scheduled for March 6 will be dedicated to strengthening Europe's security and providing support to Ukraine.
He said this after a meeting with the President of the European Council Antonio Costa in Warsaw, Censor.NET reports citing Suspilne.
"The next European Council will be devoted to helping Ukraine and strengthening our security, which is directly in line with the priorities of the Polish presidency. The President asked me for my opinion on the advisability of convening the Council. I have no doubt that, especially after what is happening in the world, strengthening European unity in Ukrainian affairs, in relation to Russia, seems to be an absolute need of the hour," Tusk said.
Tusk emphasized that strengthening European unity on issues related to Russia and Ukraine is necessary at a time when the world is facing new challenges.
"We will try at the special European Council not only to strengthen European unity. We are also closely cooperating on defense issues, on Ukraine and Russia, on a common security policy with the UK, Norway... Iceland was also at the talks in Kyiv. Europe is interested in strengthening cooperation with the United States in the context of common security. This is what our negotiations are about, and, of course, NATO is also interested in this," he said.
The Polish Prime Minister emphasized the importance of mobilizing European countries to finance defense, especially in the context of the EU's eastern border. He also emphasized the need to use the frozen Russian assets to finance Europe's security.
"From the Polish point of view, it is very important to recognize the defense of the EU's eastern border as a common European task. Here, the Polish position remains unchanged," Tusk said.
Tusk noted that the European Commission is preparing a certain package of initiatives, the details of which will be announced during the summit on March 6, and on March 2, joint defense plans with the UK will be discussed.
