Poland creates new brigade on border with Russia

Poland creates a brigade on the border with Russia

The 16th Motorized Brigade is being formed in the Warmia and Mazury Voivodeship of Poland, which borders the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation to the north.

This was reported by the Polish Ministry of National Defense on Wednesday, February 26.

"The 16th Motorized Brigade is the youngest military unit in the 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division. The formation began in the spring of 2024. In just 11 months, more than 600 soldiers have arrived here," the statement said.

As noted, this brigade will become the largest military unit in the Warmia and Mazury Voivodeship. It will consist of several thousand soldiers. The brigade is armed with Rosomak wheeled armored personnel carriers, K2 tanks and Poprad self-propelled anti-aircraft systems.

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz met with the soldiers of the 16th Brigade.

Earlier it was reported that Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and Poland, which border Russia, called on the EU to allocate 100 billion euros for defense.

Poland is currently actively working to adapt civilian airports to military needs. In particular, negotiations are underway to modernize airports for defense purposes.
