Russia illegally transferred 42 children from Kherson region to care of Russian families - Lubinets

From 2022 to 2024, Russia illegally transferred 42 children from the Kherson region into custody, despite the presence of their parents or legal representatives.
This was announced by Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets on Telegram, Censor.NET reports.
As noted, the data was obtained from the statements of the occupation administration in the Kherson region. The Russian authorities have long ignored Ukraine's demands to provide information about each deported and forcibly displaced child.
"Among other things, little was known about the children from the Kherson Regional Children's Home. In 2022, in order to save the children, the staff of the institution hid them in the basement of the church until they were found by the FSB," Lubinets said.
After that, the children were transported to the temporarily occupied Crimea to the Yalynka orphanage, and some of the children's profiles appeared in the Russian federal database for adoption. Currently, it is known that 10 children from the Kherson region are in Yalynka.
"I emphasize that such actions are a gross violation of international law, Geneva Convention IV, and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The deportation of Ukrainian children and their forced transfer to Russian families is a war crime for which the perpetrators must be held accountable!" emphasized Lubinets.
