Out of more than 19 thousand abducted children, we have managed to return little over thousand – Zelenska

Olena Zelenska on abducted children

The support that our country has now from people around the world proves that Ukrainians are not alone.

According to Censor.NET, First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska said this in an interview for the Italian political and news talk show Quarta Repubblica on the Rete 4 channel.

The First Lady emphasized that it is crucial for the world to remember who the real aggressor is and to continue supporting Ukraine in its fight for a shared future.

"Instead of stopping the aggressor and ensuring that he can no longer harm anyone, discussions begin about some kind of mutually beneficial dialogue with him. This is a distortion of concepts, a blurring of morality. And it is a very dangerous situation for everyone," she noted.

The First Lady also emphasized that in this fight Ukraine is protecting its people first and foremost.

"We are not fighting for kilometers. We are fighting for our people in the occupied territories. These kilometers are their home, work, school, and native streets. These people have the right to live in their country without fear. We cannot leave them in danger," Olena Zelenska said.

She also drew special attention to the fact that Russia has abducted more than 19 thousand Ukrainian children. So far, only 1227 have been returned, as the Russian Federation is trying to obstruct this process in various ways.

"Unfortunately, this is not a permanent mechanism. The International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, which already includes 41 countries, was created to ensure that this mechanism exists and works," the First Lady summarized.

As a reminder, the Netherlands donated DNA kits to Ukraine so that children abducted by Russia could be identified and reunited with their families as soon as possible.
