Trump wants to reset relations with Russia – Kellogg

The new broader strategy in US President Donald Trump's approach to the war in Ukraine includes the need to reset relations with Russia.
According to Censor.NET, citing European Pravda, this was stated by US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg in his report on ways to end the war in Ukraine at a discussion of the Council on Foreign Relations.
"There is also a broader strategy in President Trump's approach to this war. It is the realization that the United States must reset its relationship with Russia... Continued isolation and lack of engagement with the Russians while the war in Ukraine continues is no longer a viable or sustainable strategy," he said.
Kellogg noted that the reasons for the change in the US approach are the human cost of this war; the need to reset relations with Russia to ensure US national interests; and the need to stop the US from engaging in an "unnecessary proxy war."
"So what we're seeing now and what we're going to see is an immediate effort by the Trump administration to bring the two sides to the table to reach a peaceful settlement," Kellogg said, adding that the administration would put pressure on both sides to that end.
In addition, he mentioned the existing sanctions against Russia's "shadow fleet" that transports Russian oil.
Kellogg also said that the seizure of Russian frozen assets to rebuild Ukraine and maximum pressure on the Russian energy sector are among the tools Trump can use to put pressure on Russia.
