Trump limits Musk’s powers after mass layoffs of civil servants - Politico

Trump limited Elon Musk’s powers

President Donald Trump said that the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk cannot make unilateral decisions on the personnel policy of the departments.

This is reported by Politico, Censor.NET informs.

The sources of the publication noted that Trump convened a meeting where he emphasized that Musk has the right only to make recommendations to the departments. The billionaire himself was present at this meeting.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of a wave of mass layoffs and threats to civil servants by Musk. This statement by Trump, writes Politico, was "the first serious step towards limiting Musk's mandate."

The US President emphasized that he wants to keep qualified specialists in the state apparatus, so he does not plan mass layoffs.

Musk agreed with the new rules. He admitted that DOGE made some mistakes.

The publication also writes that judges are increasingly expressing dissatisfaction with the fact that the White House cannot clearly explain who is in charge of the federal government's staff reductions and what role Musk plays in this.

Politico recalled that Trump, in his speech to Congress, said that Musk is the "head of DOGE", although this contradicts the White House's statements in court last month that "Musk does not have independent authority to make policy decisions."
