An Estonian and a Ukrainian, whose name has not been disclosed, were detained in Latvia on suspicion of spying for Russia.

The State Security Service of Latvia said that the men illegally collected information about critical infrastructure facilities. Later, the State Security Service reported that the detainees were suspected of spying for Russia. A criminal case on espionage was opened against them.

They are currently in custody.

It is noted that the detained Estonian is a photographer Matthias Rikk, whose hobby is photographing trains. At the same time, the name of the citizen of Ukraine has not been disclosed.

It is reported that during the detention, five cell phones, four drones, two cameras and one flash drive were seized from the suspects. In addition, a so-called "forest camera" installed to monitor a critical infrastructure facility was seized.

The Latvian State Security Service also said that the two men had already been detained on February 12 in Estonia for using UAVs near critical infrastructure. And one of the detainees was warned last year that taking pictures of critical infrastructure in Latvia without permission is prohibited.
