We discussed what security guarantees Ukraine will have for its long-term safety – Waltz

US-Ukraine talks at the African Union

During the talks in Saudi Arabia, the topic of guarantees that Ukrainians will have for their long-term security was raised.

This was stated by US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

The Trump adviser noted that Ukraine "has made concrete steps and concrete proposals".

"Not only by accepting our proposal for a complete ceasefire, the details of which you can see in our joint statement, but we also delved into the substantive details of how this war should end permanently, what guarantees they will have for their long-term security and prosperity, but we really looked at what it takes to finally end this horrific fighting," Waltz said.

Waltz noted that there is already a "delegation on the next steps on the Russian side" and a delegation "on the next steps on the Ukrainian side". He said he would speak with his Russian counterpart in the coming days, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio would meet with G7 foreign ministers in the coming days.

In addition, the NATO Secretary General will be at the White House on Thursday. "And from there we will move the process forward,"  Waltz added.
