Trump is ready to impose sanctions on Russia if talks with Putin fail - White House

US President Donald Trump may impose sanctions on Russia if his talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin do not go well.
According to Censor.NET, citing Sky News, this was stated by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt at a briefing.
Journalists asked her whether Trump would consider imposing sanctions on Russia in case of an unsuccessful conversation with Putin.
"This is something that the president has talked about, and he is certainly prepared to do it [impose sanctions] if necessary. I have nothing to report, and I will never get ahead of the president in such a serious decision," she said in response to a question.
She was also asked about the ceasefire negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
Leavitt replied that "we are on the 10th-yard line of peace and we've never been closer to a peace deal than we are in this moment".
"The president [Trump] is determined to get one done," she adds.
As a reminder, Trump and Putin will discuss the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which was previously the subject of discussion with the Ukrainian side.
