Estonia to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP, - Prime Minister Mihal

Estonia has presented a plan to increase defense investments. According to Prime Minister Kristen Mihal, starting next year, defense spending will be at least 5% of GDP.

According to the head of government, the strategic goals of the Russian Federation have not changed, and aggression threatens all countries around Russia in Europe and, in particular, NATO.
"In order for Estonia to be reliably protected, we must quickly adapt to the increasingly dangerous security environment and dramatically increase the state defense budget. Our goal is to ensure that Russia's military aggression against Estonia is not feasible. To do this, we will raise defense spending to at least 5% of GDP," Michal emphasized.
The Prime Minister believes that it is necessary to make additional investments and negotiations on the state budget for this purpose will begin soon.
"We have to get used to the idea that defense spending will remain at 5 percent of GDP for a long time, and in the coming years it will rise above this mark," said Estonian Defense Minister Tahkna.
