Pavel on large-scale attacks on Ukraine: It doesn’t look like Russia has any intent for ceasefire

President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel

Large-scale Russian attacks in Ukraine, including attacks on civilian targets, at a time when ceasefire negotiations are beginning, do not indicate the seriousness of the Kremlin's intentions to conclude a ceasefire.

This was stated by Czech President Petr Pavel in Kyiv on Friday, Censor.NET reports citing Radio Prague International.

Pavel visited Odesa on Thursday, where Russia carried out one of the largest drone attacks in the evening.

He noted that he has received only preliminary data so far, according to which it was the largest attack on Odesa, and "a slightly different tactic of air strike was used."

The Czech president added that it is likely that pressure on the Russian side will need to be significantly increased to change its approach to peace talks.

"Given what we can see and hear, we can see and hear, it doesn't look like the Russian side is going to conclude any kind of ceasefire. Obviously, it will be necessary to apply the pressure that the American president (Donald Trump - ed.) spoke about, which should be quite tangible for Russia to react," Pavel emphasized.

On Friday, the Czech leader visited Kyiv's Okhmatdyt hospital, which was attacked by Russia last July.

According to the Czech president, Russia is ignoring international law and is actually committing war crimes by striking not only medical facilities but also ambulances.

"Based on what I have heard and what was eventually documented and submitted to The Hague (International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court - ed.), there were hundreds of such cases," Pavel said.

He believes it is necessary to provide assistance primarily to those who need it most, namely people in hospitals. "If someone attacks people who are defenseless and undergoing treatment, it is a clear proof of barbarism, I have no other word for it," he added.

On March 10, late in the evening, the Russian armed forces attacked Odesa with strike drones, preliminarily of the Shahed-136 type.
