EU defense ministers to discuss €5 billion for ammunition for Ukraine next week – media

EU defense ministers to discuss supply of ammunition to Ukraine in Warsaw

An informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Warsaw on April 2-3 will discuss the urgent provision of €5 billion worth of ammunition to Ukraine.

This was reported by the EP with reference to a top diplomat of a Western European country, Censor.NET reports.

"Regarding military support, we expect that the discussion on Ukraine's 5 billion euro needs will be discussed at the informal defense council next week. We hope that we will be able to reach some agreement in the following days," the unnamed diplomat said.

At the same time, the source clarified that informal meetings of the EU Council do not have the authority to make decisions, "but can certainly give further guidance" on the implementation of the agreements reached.

Also, according to him, the ministers will discuss Kaja Kallas's plan to provide Ukraine with military aid worth up to 40 billion euros.

According to the source, the discussion of the Kallas initiative will also continue at the EU Foreign Affairs Council on April 14.

"It is still difficult to say when this initiative can be finalized and approved, and whether it will be approved at all," the European diplomat said.

Earlier, it was reported that the EU failed to agree on the allocation of 5 billion euros for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine.
