Zelenskyy on Trump’s tariffs: they will not affect Ukrainian economy or arms supplies

Zelenskyy on Trump’s new tariffs

The introduction of new tariffs by the US administration will not affect Ukraine’s economy or the supply of weapons to Ukraine.

This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a press briefing, Interfax-Ukraine reports, according to Censor.NET.

The President noted that Ukraine’s trade turnover with the United States is "very small."

"Currently, the trade volume between Ukraine and the United States is around $3.5–3.8 billion. We are aware of the duties that were previously imposed on our metallurgical products — there was a 25% duty. After the full-scale war began, that tariff was reduced. Now it has been reinstated. I mean, we’re not talking about volumes that pose any real problem. For us, this is not an issue," Zelenskyy said.

He also stressed that the new tariffs from the United States will not affect the volume of military aid to Ukraine.

"Of course, it’s not great for the economy. But when it comes to tariffs, they won’t affect us — not in terms of our economy overall," the President said.

Trump imposes tariffs

As a reminder, Trump signed a decree imposing a minimum 10 percent tariff on almost all goods entering the United States. For some countries, the tariffs are higher. In particular, China - 34%, the European Union - 20%.

Later, it became known that Trump had declared a state of emergency in the country's economy.
