EU Council to discuss increased military support for Ukraine, including 5 billion euros in ammunition - media

Aid to Ukraine from Europe

On Monday, April 14, EU foreign ministers will consider an updated proposal by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas to increase military assistance to Ukraine.

This was announced by a diplomat familiar with the results of the meeting of EU ambassadors in Brussels, Censor.NET reports with reference to the EP.

"During the meeting of the Coreper (Committee of Permanent Representatives of the 27 EU states - ed.), which prepares the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, there was an extended discussion about Ukraine. About half of the member states support the Callas initiative on military assistance to Ukraine and are convinced that it should remain on the table, especially since it is being finalized and is almost ready," the source said.

One of the main components of this initiative is to increase the supply of ammunition to Ukraine. The diplomat emphasized that most EU member states agree on the need to meet the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for €5 billion worth of ammunition, voiced at a European Council meeting on March 20.

"Everyone agreed that Ukraine's request for €5 billion worth of ammunition, voiced by Zelenskyy at the European Council meeting on March 20, should be quickly granted," the diplomat added.

According to the source, positive signals are expected from the EU countries regarding this part of the Callas initiative, and the issue will be actively discussed at a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
