Trump explained suspension of tariffs: People got little scared and panicked

Trump on tariffs

US President Donald Trump has explained his decision to suspend global trade tariffs for 90 days.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to RBC-Ukraine.

"I thought people started to get a little bit out of line. They started to panic, you know, get a little bit fussy, a little bit scared, because we have a lot of work to do," Trump said when asked about the 90-day pause in tariffs.

The US President explained that flexibility is needed in the issue of tariffs.

"You have to be flexible. I can say: here is a wall. I will go through it, no matter what happens, but you cannot go through the wall. Sometimes you have to go under the wall, around it or over it. Sometimes you have to go around them," Trump said.

He emphasised that "nothing is over yet" regarding tariffs. But the US, he said, has "tremendous support from other countries".

At the same time, Trump is confident that even China wants to conclude an agreement with the US on reciprocal import tariffs, but does not know how to do it.

"They (the Chinese - ed.) are quite proud people, and President Xi is a proud man. I know him well, and they just don't know how to approach this, but they will eventually figure it out. They are in the process of finding a solution, but they want to make a deal," Trump assured.

As a reminder, the United States is introducing a 90-day pause with a 10% duty for countries that have not responded to the increase in customs tariffs. At the same time, the tariff for China has been increased to 125%.
