Lithuania ready to host more US troops - Shakalienė

Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile Šakalienė, in a conversation with Pentagon Chief Pete Hagseth, announced Lithuania's readiness to deploy an additional American military contingent.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by LRT.
"I emphasized that the presence of American troops in our country is of particular importance, and Lithuania is ready to receive even more American troops. New infrastructure will be opened for them in the fall," the Lithuanian Defense Minister said.
According to Šakalienė, Hughes praised Lithuania's approach to the defense of its territory and efforts to improve the conditions for US troops.
"The Secretary emphasized that any talk of withdrawal is not true," the Lithuanian minister said.
During the conversation, she also emphasized that the United States is the only force capable of guaranteeing Russia's compliance with the ceasefire agreement in Ukraine, if it is reached.
It is noted that the conversation between the heads of the military departments of the two countries took place against the backdrop of US media reports that the US administration is considering a review of the presence of US troops in Europe.
As a reminder, members of the House Armed Services Committee from the Republican and Democratic parties criticized reports that the Trump administration is considering a reduction in US forces in Europe.
