Italian Foreign Minister Tajani responds to Trump’s statements about Sumy strike: Russia did not attack Ukraine by mistake

Tajani comments on Trump’s statement about Russia’s mistaken attack on Sumy

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani commented on the words of Donald Trump, who said that Russia attacked civilians in Sumy allegedly "by accident."

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to ANSA.

"I don't know what the nature of (Russia's attack on Sumy) was, but the Russians decided to invade Ukraine in violation of all international law, not by mistake," the minister said.

Tayyani said that "when you wage war and carry out such attacks, mistakes can happen." However, he noted, these mistakes are unacceptable because they "are part of the overall strategy - we are still talking about an attack on Ukraine."

"And even if they wanted to bomb another territory, it would still be part of the aggression," the Foreign Minister explained.

"Ukraine has stated that it is ready for a dialog. It seems to me that Russia doesn't want to have this dialogue if it continues to attack and wants to continue the war it provoked, because the war was provoked by Russia. What happened yesterday is unacceptable because it is part of an unacceptable aggression against a free and independent country," he added.

The day before, Donald Trump, commenting on Russia's strike on Sumy, said: "I think it was terrible. And I was told that they made a mistake. But I think it's terrible. I think the whole war is terrible."

On April 13, Russian invaders launched two missile attacks on the center of Sumy. The attack killed 34 people, including two children.

April 14, 15, 16 were declared Days of Mourning in the city for those killed in the Russian strike on April 13.
