Merz to visit Ukraine on his first foreign trip as Chancellor – media

Friedrich Merz, the likely future Chancellor of Germany, may make his first foreign visit in this role to Ukraine.

According to media sources in Berlin and Brussels, a potential visit by Merz to Ukraine is being prepared for early May.
The visit is expected to coincide with the "Coalition of the Willing" summit, which will take place in Kyiv on May 9, Welt reports.
French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk are also expected to attend.
The outlet notes that this would be Merz’s first official foreign visit as German Chancellor. However, his spokesperson declined to comment on the media reports.
As a reminder, the federal chancellor elections in Germany will be held on 6 May.
Friedrich Merz is to become the new chancellor. His party, the Bloc of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union, won the parliamentary elections in February.
