Trump believes Putin wants to end war in Ukraine - White House
US President Donald Trump believes that Russia wants to end the war against Ukraine.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said this at a briefing on 15 April, Censor.NET reports.
This assessment was voiced by Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff after a meeting with Putin, and the US president agrees with him, the White House spokeswoman said.
She said that the parties had a ‘productive conversation’.
‘Russia has a motivation to end the war - perhaps it is the prospects of economic partnership with the United States,’ she said.
However, Moscow must first agree to a ceasefire, and this was ‘clearly communicated’ to Putin, Leavitt added.
She also said that Trump had ‘heard nothing’ about an invitation from Zelenskyy to come to Ukraine.
Earlier, Trump's special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, met with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg.
