Ministry of Foreign Affairs blames Shokin on jeopardizing visa-free regime

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry materials prepared for the meeting of the National Council for Reforms contain a requirement on rotation among PGO's appointees to the commission which is to approve the candidates for nomination to the post of anti-corruption prosecutor.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the situation around the establishment of anti-corruption bodies is alarming - it has caused the most criticism on behalf of the European Commission expert missions. In particular, the document notes: in order to avoid the disruption of the implementation of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalization with the European Union, Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin should "replace the members of the selection commission representing the PGO by those not being politicians and civil servants until Oct. 23."

At present, the PGO is represented in the commission by those of its employees who the media and public claim have been involved in corrupt activities.

Earlier, there were reports on the critical situation caused by the PGO around the implementation of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan. The EU has repeatedly appealed personally to Shokin as well as to the president, requesting him to urge the prosecutor general to carry out rotation of the most infamous prosecutors.

The EU Delegation to Ukraine has already released two statements on this issue, but until now the requirement is not met.
