The Security Service has foiled yet another terrorist attack in Odesa. Following pre-emptive measures, a Russian agent has been detained who was attempting to blow up a lorry carrying high-value equipment destined for a local heating supply facility.

This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the SSU press centre.

Placed an explosive device under a lorry

As the investigation established, the perpetrator planted a homemade explosive device (HED) under a lorry transporting the aforementioned equipment to the energy facility.

"The suspect then planned to detonate the bomb remotely by making calls to the main and 'backup' mobile phones with which the explosives were rigged," the statement said.

The agent’s arrest

SBU officers acted pre-emptively – they deactivated the explosive device in advance and arrested the agent.

Shortly afterwards, the suspect arrived at the site of the planned terrorist attack and, after planting the bomb, attempted to detonate it remotely.
