Combat operations in the Kharkiv region in 2026
In early March, the Joint Forces Operation reported that the enemy was building up forces for an offensive in the Velykoburlutskyi direction. By the end of the month,in the Velykoburlutskyi direction, the enemy attempted to break through the defences towards Chuhunivka. Our soldiers are holding their defences, destroying enemy forces. In the Kupiansk direction, assaults were repelled in the areas of Pishchane, Petropavlivka, Kruhliakivka and towards Novoplatonivka and Kurylivka.
Meanwhile, in the north of the Kharkiv region, Russian troops are adopting a tactic of cautious inactivity.
In particular, hostilities in the Kharkiv region in 2026 remain intense, but are of a local and positional nature without any large-scale breakthroughs of the front line. The situation can be described as a constant standoff across several key sectors.
In 2026, the Kharkiv region:
- is not the main direction of the Russian Federation’s strategic offensive,
- but remains one of the key fronts of containment.
Russian troops are attempting to apply pressure and wear down the defences, whilst the Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding their positions and occasionally launching counter-attacks.
