Contract army wages to rise twofold in January, Ukraine's president says
President Poroshenko says contract soldiers will see a 100 percent salary increase as early as this January.
He said this when meeting the military personnel of the 44th Separate Artillery Brigade, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.
"The approved budget provides for a twofold raise in salaries for the contract military, including for the officers," Poroshenko said.
Earlier, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said he expected an increase in the number of contract soldiers after the salaries were raised.
