Fire at Hrybovytske dump site brought under control, – State Emergency Service

Censor.NET reports citing the statement by the press office of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

The statement reads: "The aircraft carried out 27 flights dropping 216 tons of water as at 7:41 p.m. The operation of aviation of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine over the territory of the landfill has been temporarily suspended.

"The extinguishing of separate fire fronts has been conducted at a territory of about 1,500 square meters. The fire was eliminated on separate areas with the total territory of 1,100 square meters. 12 units of equipment, 56 firefighters, and two AN-32P firefighting aircraft with 14 crew members were involved in the fire-fighting operations.

"The fire has been localized by 9:30 p.m. The flame is being still recorded only at 30 separate smoke emission areas in the middle of the landfill, with a total area of 400 square meters on the slopes inaccessible for firefighters.

The search operations are underway."

Earlier, a large-scale fire broke out on Hrybovytske dump site in the vicinity of Lviv on May 30. A waste pile slid and swamped three firefighters and presumably one member of a utility provider after the fire was eliminated and the firefighters were gathering the equipment and examining the site. The body of the third victim in the waste pile slide on the landfill located on the outskirts of Lviv was found late at night on May 31. A mourning for the victims of fire at the dump site was declared in Lviv June 1.

Criminal proceedings were initiated into the accident.
