Border guards do not check women’s Reserve+ app when they leave Ukraine – SBGS

Ukrainian border guards do not check the Reserve+ mobile app or military registration documents of Ukrainian women when they leave Ukraine for EU countries.

Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) of Ukraine, said this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine, according to Censor.NET.

Checks of women

The SBGS spokesperson stressed that there have been no changes to the border-crossing rules for women under martial law.

According to him, border guards have access to the Oberih system, which contains data on citizens liable for military service. Ukrainian citizens are checked against this system when crossing the border. However, women’s military registration documents are not inspected.

"The border-crossing rules and the documents that border guard inspectors may check are clearly defined for each category of citizens. Legislation does not establish restrictions on women leaving Ukraine or any special provisions regarding the inspection of certain documents. Therefore, border guards do not check them," Demchenko explained.

Background

  • On 4 August 2026, the EU extended temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens for another year, until 4 March 2028.
  • The decision stipulates that temporary protection should be granted to Ukrainian citizens who fulfil their military obligations under Ukrainian law.
  • Applicants may be asked to provide a document confirming their military status or their right to leave Ukraine. The Reserve+ app is among the documents mentioned in the EU rules.
  • The provision applies to both men and women. It does not apply to people who already held temporary protection in the relevant EU country as of 30 July and have continuously maintained that status.
