"Implementation of Freyja project is one of Ukraine’s absolute priorities," - Sybiha

Sybiha: the FREYJA project is an absolute priority for Ukraine

The Freyja project aims to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities with the support of international partners and is an absolute priority for Ukraine.

According to Censor.NET, citing RBC-Ukraine, this was stated by the Ukrainian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, following a meeting with the German Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadepful.

"In terms of the timeframe, a truly extraordinary result has already been achieved. Zelenskyy has brought the leaders together. This year, we have established an anti-ballistic coalition in a unique format, as it included not only the leaders and senior officials of this coalition, but also manufacturers," said the Ukrainian Foreign Minister.

Ukraine is working to attract partners

Work is currently underway directly between the manufacturers and other stakeholders on whom the practical implementation of the project depends.

Sybiha emphasised that there is no doubt that the Freyja project will go ahead. At the same time, the key issue remains the time required to reach the necessary decisions.

"There is no doubt that this project will be implemented. The only question is one of timing and the speed at which decisions are taken," said the minister.

The Minister noted that Kyiv is discussing further support for Ukraine with European and other international partners.

In particular, this involves strengthening air defences and other capabilities needed to protect Ukraine from Russian attacks.

"That is why this will certainly be a priority in our immediate actions and decisions, meetings and discussions," he emphasised.

What led up to it?

In early August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the FREYJA programme for a joint European anti-ballistic missile system is already up and running. Ten countries have already joined the initiative.
