Enemy attacked train in Kharkiv region with drone: two people were killed and five others were injured (updated)
On Sunday, 23 August, a Russian UAV struck the Lozova–Kharkiv train in the Kharkiv region. Two people were killed, and a further five were injured as a result of the attack by the enemy drone.
This was reported on Telegram by Mykola Kalashnyk, Ukraine’s Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport, according to Censor.NET.
There are fatalities and injuries
"At Lymanivka station in the Kharkiv region, a Russian drone struck the Lozova–Kharkiv electric train. Due to the threat of a drone strike, the train was brought to a halt in good time and the passengers were evacuated. Most people, along with the train crew, were at a safe distance from the railway infrastructure, but some remained near the train. This had fatal consequences: one female passenger was killed in the strike, and four other people were injured," the government official said.
The Minister emphasised that during the evacuation, it is essential to follow the railway staff’s instructions to the letter and under no circumstances to remain near moving trains, as the enemy may launch further attacks.
"Today, Russia attacked this electric train for the second time whilst the rescue teams were already at work. Fortunately, there were no casualties," added Kalashnik.

Serhii Zelenskyi, the mayor of Lozova, told "Suspilne.Kharkiv" that another woman had died as a result of the strike. The 34-year-old woman, who had suffered burns to 90 per cent of her body, died in hospital.
Her 11-year-old daughter also suffered burns.
"Her daughter has been stabilised, but she is in a serious condition. The specialists will assess what happens next. We are waiting for a transfer from Kharkiv to the burns unit. We are operating on two more people here, and two patients in a serious condition have been sent to Kharkiv," said Zelenskyy.
He added that the total number of casualties had risen to 5.
Attacks on the railway throughout the day
According to Kalashnik, on Ukraine’s National Flag Day, the Russian military had already carried out five attacks on the railway.
In particular, in the Odesa region, a ‘Shahed’ drone struck the locomotive of a passenger train. The train was also brought to a halt in good time, and railway staff evacuated the passengers. There were 593 people on board, including 15 children. No one was injured. Following the first strike, the enemy attacked the locomotive again. The minister added that, with the assistance of the Odesa Regional State Administration and the State Emergency Service, everyone has now been safely transported by bus to Odesa.
