In the Mukachevo district of Zakarpattia, efforts are continuing for a second day to bring under control a large-scale forest fire that has engulfed 7 hectares. The fire spread rapidly due to the mountainous terrain and strong gusts of wind.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the State Emergency Service of Zakarpattia.
According to the rescue services, a report of dry grass and forest litter catching fire near the village of Sasivka was received at around 4.00 pm on Sunday, 20 September.
"Firefighters from the state fire and rescue units in Svaliava and the village of Rososh were immediately dispatched to the scene. Given the mountainous terrain and strong gusts of wind, the fire spread rapidly, so a decision was taken to deploy additional personnel and equipment," the State Emergency Service said.
Twenty-six rescue workers and eight pieces of equipment from Mukachevo, Svaliava, Rososh and Nyzhni Vorota were deployed to tackle the fire. Thirty-four forest rangers and 20 local residents are also working at the scene.
State Emergency Service specialists are using a drone to monitor the situation from the air.
On Monday, 21 September, at 08:05, the fire, which had spread over an area of 7 hectares, was successfully contained. Efforts to extinguish it are currently ongoing.
