Russian Ministry of Defense is lying to Putin about capture and "mop-up operations" in Oskil and Studenok, dozens of kilometers from front line
The Russian Ministry of Defense has begun reporting on alleged battles and mop-up operations in populated areas located deep behind the lines of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The Center for Countering Disinformation calls such statements outright disinformation and an attempt to paint a picture of success for the Russian occupiers, according to Censor.NET.
As noted, in its reports to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, the Russian Ministry of Defense claims there have been "battles" and "mop-up operations," specifically in the villages of Oskil and Studenok. According to the CCD, these settlements are located dozens of kilometers from the actual front line.
The Center emphasizes that even Russian pro-Russian bloggers acknowledge that such claims do not match the actual situation.
The Center links the emergence of such "paper victories" to the conclusion of the election campaign. As noted by the Center, Putin recently publicly linked voting for the ruling party to support for the war, so the Kremlin is attempting to paint a picture of successful military operations in the Russian information space.
Furthermore, according to the CCD’s assessment, amid rumors of another wave of mobilization following the elections, Russian propaganda is attempting to reassure the population by creating the illusion of "quick success."
