Ukraine proposed energy truce, US will convey idea to Russia – Zelenskyy
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine was ready for any format of an energy truce with Russia and that the United States would convey the proposal to Moscow.
He made the statement at a press briefing after his meeting with Donald Trump, Censor.NET reports, citing the broadcast.
On strikes against Russia
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine will not strike Russia’s oil-refining facilities if Moscow, in turn, refrains from attacking Ukraine’s energy system and water supply.
"We talked about how to end the war: we are ready for that. I am not sure that Russia is ready. We discussed an energy truce. We are ready for it. Of course, we are ready to stop striking their oil refineries and energy system if they do not strike ours. That is, if we do not launch strikes on energy facilities — on the entire energy sector, on everything. If you do not attack ours, we will leave yours alone. That is our proposal. Any form of negotiations on Russia’s part would signal that they are ready to move forward, because I am not certain of that," he said, describing his meeting with Trump.
- Zelenskyy added that he was grateful to the US side for agreeing to convey these proposals to the Russians. He expressed hope that the United States would find a way to bring Russia to the negotiating table.
On a meeting with Putin
Zelenskyy expressed hope that Trump would use his influence in this regard:
"Trump wants to end the war. He said that he would do everything possible to bring this war to an end. The most important move Trump can make is to organise a trilateral meeting where all sensitive issues can be discussed by the three leaders. I am ready to meet Putin at any time. I do not know whether Trump will involve Xi Jinping in the negotiation process, but he has influence over Putin."
On Patriot
Zelenskyy said that US President Donald Trump had a "positive attitude" towards granting Ukraine licences to produce Patriot missiles.
"We asked the president to help us accelerate this process. He has a positive attitude towards the licences," Zelenskyy said.
He noted that the Ukrainian side had held talks with Patriot manufacturer RTX (Raytheon) and received a signal that the company was ready for such cooperation.
According to Zelenskyy, launching the production of Patriot systems in Ukraine could take approximately one to one and a half years.
"We will launch this project. Again, I do not know whether it will take a year or a year and a half, but this is for the future... We have Patriot systems for Ukrainians. We will need our own production of such missiles, even when we are producing our own anti-missile system. But in any case, we are counting on Patriot," the president said.
