Article 5 on NATO’s collective defence is deliberately worded ambiguously, - Rutte
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte stated that Article 5 on the collective defence of Alliance member states is "deliberately ambiguous" for the military bloc’s adversaries.
Rutte announced this during a session of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs in the US, according to Censor.NET.
Statement by the General Secretary
"Article 5 is deliberately ambiguous, so we will never tell anyone exactly when it will be invoked and when it will not. We do not want to make our adversaries smarter than us", explained Rutte.
- It should be noted that Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty states that an armed attack against one member of the Alliance shall be regarded as an attack against them all and shall entail the obligation of all members to come to each other’s defence.
Hybrid threat
"As for hybrid threats, we have every means to respond. But you won’t see all of them, as they won’t be made public. Furthermore, some of the responses are asymmetric," — said Rutte.
He added that "the allies are making life increasingly difficult for Russia’s shadow fleet, and the Russians hate it".
