US has officially invited Putin to G20 summit in Miami this December
The United States has officially invited the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to the Group of Twenty (G20) summit, which is to be held in December 2026 in Miami, Florida.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told journalists this after a meeting with Sergey Lavrov, according to Censor.NET.

Rubio expressed the hope that Putin would accept this proposal, as it would give the Kremlin leader the opportunity to speak with US President Donald Trump and other world leaders. The G20 summit in Miami will take place on 20 December.
Rubio added that "it would be good" if Trump and Putin were to meet in Miami.
"They have spoken on the phone on several occasions. I don’t know the exact number, but since the President took office, I think they have spoken at least ten times. So, yes, we remain open to dialogue," the official added.
The US Secretary of State stated that Donald Trump is prepared to engage in dialogue and hold meetings "with practically anyone", arguing that "to solve problems, you need to meet with those with whom you disagree".
- As a reminder, Trump and Putin last met at the summit in Anchorage in August 2025.
What led up to it?
- It should be recalled that, the day before, US President Donald Trump stated that Russian dictator Putin was ready for a new meeting, but was not sure whether it would take place in Miami on the sidelines of the G20 summit. Trump’s statement came on the eve of the opening of the UN General Assembly, where several related meetings are scheduled to take place this week.
