Washington cannot cut off engagement with Beijing, - Rubio
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that Washington must maintain contact with Beijing despite the disputes between the two countries.
According to Censor.NET, Rubio told journalists this in New York on Wednesday.
Rubio explained the importance of relations with China
According to the US Secretary of State, there are serious differences between Washington and Beijing. At the same time, he believes it is essential to maintain engagement between the two countries at the highest level.
"Of course, there are serious differences between our countries. But to think that we will not engage with China at the highest level is irresponsible," said Rubio.
He pointed out that the US and China have the world’s largest economies, as well as the two most powerful armed forces.
The US and China must maintain channels of communication
According to Rubio, this is precisely why it is important for Washington and Beijing to maintain channels of communication and hold meetings at the highest level.
The US Secretary of State also stated that relations between the two countries would shape the 21st century.
Rubio’s statement came against the backdrop of planned high-level talks between US and Chinese representatives. Earlier this month, Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed forthcoming talks between the two countries.
Incidentally, during talks with US President Donald Trump in New York, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that he involve China in the peace process aimed at ending the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine.
