$10,000 to let wanted man through: two drivers were detained at Yahodyn whilst attempting to bribe border guard. PHOTOS

At the ‘Yahodyn’ border crossing, law enforcement officers detained two drivers of an international coach who had attempted to offer a bribe of 10,000 US dollars to an officer of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Details

Operatives from the Internal and Own Security Department of the 6th Border Detachment of the ‘West’ Main Directorate for Internal and Own Security of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, in conjunction with officers from the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police, established that the detainees had planned to illegally transport a resident of Mykolaiv across the state border. The man was wanted for breaching military registration regulations.

According to the perpetrators’ plan, a cash bribe was intended to persuade the border guard to ‘turn a blind eye’ to the offence and not enter the passenger’s details into the relevant databases.

However, the border guard immediately reported the offer of an unlawful benefit to the internal security service. Both drivers were arrested at the very moment the money was being handed over.

The suspects have now been notified that they are under suspicion of committing a criminal offence. The court has ordered them to be remanded in custody, subject to bail. The investigation is ongoing.
