According to the case file, he turned out to be a conscript from the Dnipropetrovsk region who had been recruited by the enemy and was serving as an assistant UAV operator.
It has been established that he came to the attention of Russian intelligence officers via Telegram channels designed to help people find romantic partners.
The Russians recruited him via a fake account belonging to a virtual girlfriend, under whose guise they extracted the information they needed.
As the investigation revealed, the suspect passed on to the enemy details about his reconnaissance battalion and neighbouring units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Vovchansk direction, which are fighting just 10 km from the front line.
SSU officers secured the positions of Ukrainian troops in good time and detained the agent near the training ground.
During searches, a smartphone containing evidence of his work for the enemy was seized from the detainee.
Investigators from the Security Service have now informed the informant that he is suspected of the unauthorised disclosure of information regarding the deployment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces or other military formations established in accordance with Ukrainian law, committed whilst martial law was in force.
The suspect is in custody. He faces up to 8 years’ imprisonment. The issue of whether his criminal actions may also be classified as high treason is currently being considered.
