Ground Forces unveil Drone Forces

Andrii Ostapenko has been appointed head of the Army’s new Unmanned Systems Directorate

The Ground Forces Command discussed the expansion of unmanned systems and unveiled the Ground Forces’ Drone Forces.

According to Censor.NET, this was announced by Colonel Andrii Ostapenko, head of the Unmanned Systems Directorate of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Ground Forces Command.

According to him, the new command’s tasks include staffing units with military personnel, their training, and the development of unmanned systems within the Army.

Ostapenko emphasised that the so-called Drone Forces are not a separate branch or type of military service and do not duplicate the functions of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"The Drone Forces are not a separate branch or type of the Armed Forces. They are our internal brand for our campaigns, into which we are channelling our efforts to develop unmanned systems for general-purpose brigades, corps-level unmanned systems units, and ground-based robotic systems," explained the colonel.

According to him, there is no competition with the Unmanned Systems Forces, as the relevant units of the Army carry out tasks in the interests of combined-arms units.

Unmanned systems units will be deployed in defensive and offensive operations, logistical missions, and to provide support and assistance to other Army units.
