A large-scale fire broke out at the ‘Sadyba Niushanik’ bird sanctuary in the Kyiv region following a Russian strike. The fire destroyed several buildings at the centre, where animals were present at the time of the attack.
According to Censor.NET, the shelter’s founder, Iryna Snopko, described the consequences of the strike.
She said that the fire completely destroyed the bird ward, as well as the henhouse and quail house. At the time of the strike, there were birds and one cat inside the buildings.
In addition, the fire destroyed stocks of feed and equipment used for the care and rehabilitation of the animals.
Victoria Moiseeva, head of the Centre for the Rehabilitation and Care of Mustelids, has appealed to the public to help the sanctuary following the Russian attack.
"Sadyba Niushanik" is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of various bird species. In particular, in 2024, the centre’s volunteers raised 17 orphaned stork chicks and subsequently released them into the wild.
