Due to Russian shelling, volume of power outages increased to three times: you can stay without electricity for up to 12 hours

Ukraine has increased the scale of power outages to three stages due to grid damage.

Ukraine has tightened restrictions on electricity supply due to damage to power grids caused by Russian attacks. In several regions, three out of six groups of consumers may be cut off at the same time, which means power outages of up to 12 hours a day.

According to Censor.NET, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported this.

The agency explained that as a result of Russian shelling, the power grid lost some of its capacity to transmit electricity due to damage to the power lines. This made it necessary to increase the number of power outages.

"This is a necessary measure that helps prevent grid overloads and protect the system from large-scale outages," the Ministry of Energy stated.

What Do the Three Rounds of Power Outages Mean?

Consumers in each region, with the exception of critical infrastructure facilities, have been divided into six priority groups.

The implementation of three-stage power restrictions means that half of the region’s consumers may be without power at any given time. Under this system, power outages for certain groups can last up to 12 hours a day.

At the same time, in the event of emergency blackouts, the extent of the restrictions may increase. In that case, the hourly schedules will not apply, and power will be cut off depending on the current state of the power grid.

By comparison, on October 7, the frequency of rolling blackouts ranged from 0.5 to 1.5 cycles.

How to Reduce the Load on the Power Grid

The Ministry of Energy has urged Ukrainians to use electricity sparingly, especially during the evening hours of peak consumption—from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

In particular, it is recommended not to turn on several high-power electrical appliances at the same time. This will help reduce the load on the power grid and shorten the duration of mandatory restrictions.

  • As a reminder, on the morning of October 8, following an order from Ukrenergo, emergency power outages were implemented in Kyiv and certain districts of the Kyiv region. Due to a drop in voltage, there were also interruptions in the power supply to certain water supply facilities in the capital.
