Attempt by mobilised FSB agent to infiltrate Airborne Forces foiled: traitorous lawyer detained, – SSU. PHOTO

The Security Service’s counter-intelligence unit, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has thwarted fresh attempts by the FSB to ‘infiltrate’ its agent into the Defence Forces.

This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the SSU press centre.

Following a special operation in the Kharkiv region, a former lawyer was detained who, acting on the enemy’s orders, had been mobilised into one of the elite brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Airborne Assault Troops to spy ‘from within’ the combat unit.

What information did the traitor pass on to the enemy?

As the investigation revealed, the suspect collected and passed on information to the Russians regarding the deployment and movements of the unit in which he was serving.

SBU officers exposed the agent in good time. Thanks to the Security Service’s counter-intelligence unit’s swift response, they managed not only to secure the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine but also to thwart Russian combat operations on the eastern front.

It has been established that, at the start of the full-scale war, the former lawyer was sentenced to prison for the unauthorised dissemination of information about the combat operations of the Defence Forces.

After his release, an FSB officer contacted the suspect via a messaging app and offered him cooperation in exchange for ‘evacuation’ to the Russian Federation.

The Russian agent then instructed the suspect to enlist in the Ukrainian Armed Forces in order to direct enemy fire at Ukrainian troops.

During searches, a smartphone containing evidence of his work for the Russian special services was seized from the detainee.

Charges

SBU investigators have informed the agent that he is suspected of an offence under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
