Prosecutors from the Luhansk Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Eastern Region have submitted indictments to court against four military officials accused of negligence in the performance of their duties.
The Prosecutor General’s Office reported this, according to Censor.NET.
Details
In December 2022, a Territorial Defense unit was deployed to combat operations but was withdrawn from the line of contact just five days later, handing over its positions to another military unit. Despite this, service members continued to receive additional payments for participation in combat missions over the following two months.
According to investigators, the officials failed to ensure proper verification of reports and documents that would confirm the service members’ actual participation in combat operations. As a result, the state paid out more than UAH 6.7 million without justification.
Specifically:
- More than UAH 3.1 million was paid on the basis of reports submitted by the former head of the food supply service, who was effectively serving as head of logistics;
- More than UAH 2.3 million was paid due to inadequate oversight by the former chief of staff and first deputy commander of the military unit;
- More than UAH 787,000 was paid due to inadequate verification of information by the former deputy commander of a rifle company, who was effectively serving as its commander;
- More than UAH 440,000 was paid on the basis of reports submitted by the former head of the medical service and head of the medical aid station.
All four are charged with negligence in the performance of duties by a military official under martial law, resulting in grave consequences.
The prosecutor filed civil claims seeking compensation for the losses caused to the state. At the prosecutor’s request, the court also ordered the seizure of the defendants’ property: a land plot, three cars and an apartment.
