Former Higher League basketball player Klym Liiv killed on front line

Former Higher League basketball player Klym Liiv, who devoted more than 20 years to the sport, was killed defending Ukraine. Before joining the military, he played for Ukrainian basketball clubs and worked as a youth coach. Shortly before his death, he received a state award.
Ukrainian basketball player Stanislav Medvedenko reported this on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.
According to Medvedenko, Liiv joined the Vedmedi basketball team as a child and later began coaching. The athlete devoted the final years of his life to defending Ukraine with arms in hand.
"Klym Liiv was killed… He loved life and always made the most of it. He joined Vedmedi as a young child, then had a brief opportunity to work as a coach, and spent the last few years defending Ukraine with arms in hand," Medvedenko wrote.
He also noted that he had recently learned that Liiv had received a state decoration. The post does not specify which award the serviceman received.
According to sports media, Klym Liiv devoted more than two decades to basketball. Over the years, he played for Lvivska Politekhnika, BC Kyiv, Sarny, Self Made, and Push Team.
As a member of Vedmedi, he won the Ukrainian championship in the All-Ukrainian Youth Basketball League three times. He also worked with children, passing on his experience to young basketball players.
