Drones and balloons attack Moscow and Moscow region: operations at four airports restricted. VIDEO
An attack involving drones and small balloons, as well as active Russian air defense operations, is being reported in Moscow and the Moscow region on October 9. Flight restrictions have been imposed at all four Moscow airports, Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky, due to the aerial threat.
According to Censor.NET, Russian media have reported this, citing a statement from Rosaviatsia.
According to local monitoring channels, drones and small balloons were detected in the airspace over Moscow and the surrounding region. Air defenses were operating in the region amid reports of an aerial threat, and residents of several districts of the Russian capital heard explosions.
In particular, loud noises were reported by residents of Kapotnya, Kuzminki, Lyublino, Maryino, Tsaritsyno, Chertanovo, Orekhovo-Borisovo, Tekstilshchiki and the Nagatinsky Zaton district. Some eyewitnesses claimed to have seen air defense systems in operation.
Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency confirmed that the "Carpet" contingency plan had been activated at four Moscow airports. Such restrictions are imposed when civil aviation is threatened, including by drones appearing in the airspace.
Earlier reports said that Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports had remained closed overnight due to a drone attack.
