An unmanned aerial vehicle crashed and exploded on Moldovan territory on the night of 11 October, but the country’s air surveillance systems did not detect any unauthorised border crossings.

What is known

It is reported that the drone crashed and exploded in a forest on the outskirts of the village of Dzhamen in the Novoanenskyi district.

The incident was reported at around 10.20 pm, after which teams of military personnel and bomb disposal experts were dispatched to the scene.

The police clarified that the site where the drone crashed has been cordoned off, and specialists are examining the site and establishing the circumstances of the incident.

Law enforcement officials also urged members of the public not to approach or touch any suspicious fragments or objects, and not to visit the area until the checks have been completed.

Background

It was previously reported that the Moldovan authorities are setting up protective zones at the border checkpoint with Ukraine, where border post staff and citizens in the control zone will be able to take shelter in the event of possible attacks by enemy drones.
