Moldova ready to receive new influx of refugees from Ukraine in winter – Sandu

Moldova is ready to receive a new influx of refugees if Ukraine faces a severe humanitarian situation this winter.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu said this at the Moldova Security Forum in Chisinau, Censor.NET reports, citing Newsmaker.
Details
According to Sandu, more than one million Ukrainians fleeing the war have arrived in Moldova since 2022, and around 100,000 have made their home there.
"If this winter in Ukraine is as difficult as the whole world expects, we are ready to receive as many people as need safety," she added.
Support for Ukraine
Former Prime Minister and the president's special envoy for development and resilience Dorin Recean, in turn, said that Moldova is also preparing to provide Ukraine with logistical and energy support and to protect its own energy infrastructure.
Asked whether Moldova was ready for a new influx of refugees, Recean replied that the authorities were "considering such a scenario."
"Yes, this is part of our plans. Moldova has experience in responding to emergencies," he said.
Recean noted that preparations are not limited to humanitarian assistance. According to him, Moldova's and Ukraine's power grids are interconnected, so Moldova also "needs to prepare for possible problems with energy infrastructure."
"We will act in all these areas: humanitarian, logistical and energy," Recean said.
